About Eastern Samar State University

Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) is the premier state university in the province of Eastern Samar. It offers a dynamic education that combines academic excellence with practical experience. Through diverse programs, innovative research, and community involvement, ESSU prepares students for successful careers. With a vibrant campus and a strong alumni network, the university fosters an inclusive environment dedicated to the development of Eastern Samar and the nation.

Historical Background

ESSU’s history dates back to February 14, 1960, when it was established as the Eastern Samar National Regional Agricultural School (ESNRAS) through Republic Act No. 2434. The institution was championed by Representative Felipe J. Abrigo, widely regarded as the “Father of ESSU”.

The school underwent several transformations: it became the Eastern Samar Junior Agricultural College in 1973, the Eastern Samar College of Agriculture in 1978, and the Eastern Samar State College in 1993. Finally, on August 7, 2004, Republic Act 9312 converted it into a full university, integrating other schools to form the present-day ESSU system.
