The Office of the Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension (OVPRIE), through the Training and Extension Services Office (TESO), organized an STI Summit: Stakeholders Convergence, Program Launch, and Partnership Signing with its counterparts on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the Teatro Ibabawnon, ESSU Main Campus.
TESO welcomed teams from its partner agencies and organizations, including the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the Provincial Government of Eastern Samar, the City Government of Borongan, the Local Government Units of San Julian and Taft, and Farmers and Fisherfolk Organizations from the different barangays and municipalities across the province.
The organizers themed the gathering “Fostering Collaboration for Sustainable Science, Technology, and Innovation,” which aims to promote dialogue, collaboration, and action to harness the full potential of Science, Technology & Innovation (STI) for sustainable development goals. By bringing together key stakeholders, the activity seeks to discuss pressing issues, establish partnerships, align priorities, and launch impactful STI programs to address challenges while ensuring sustainability and inclusivity.
No less than the ESSU key officials greeted the guests with their welcoming messages. University President, Dr. Andres C. Pagatpatan, Jr., emphasized his administration’s dedicated efforts in support of ground-breaking impactful extension projects, while Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Vicente A. Agda, Jr., boasted of the institution’s decisive thrusts in innovation and globalization, which include impacting community development.
The event was further strengthened by the presence of Dr. John Glenn D. Ocaña, Regional Director of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region VIII, whose support and leadership have been vital in advancing research, development, and innovation in the region.
With the signing of the partnership agreement, the meeting seeks to formalize commitments of collaboration and combine resources and expertise for maximum effect. Moreover, the goals of the meeting also include providing a forum for stakeholders to coordinate and discuss efforts towards sustainable STI, launching new initiatives, forging permanent alliances, showcasing innovations, and encouraging responsibility among STI program implementers.
