Unwavering in the fulfillment of their targets, ESSU's Research Development Services Office (RDSO) carries out another workshop on Capability Building on Futures Thinking and Foresight of the University, with the theme "Charting Futures: Designing Emerging Research Projects in Science and Technology," held on September 23-25, 2024, at the Second Floor Central Library, ESSU Main Campus.
The said workshop brings in accomplished resource speakers from the University of the Philippines (UP) Visayas in the persons of Dr. Rolly G. Fuentes, a professor in chemistry at the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics; and Prof. Jay T. Torrefiel, who is an Assistant Professor of Botany serving as the Faculty-in-Charge of the Natural History Museum and Herbarium.
Faculty researchers from the various campuses were treated to a knowledge conveyance on the nuances and subtle complexities of research studies writing and designing, which are crucial to directing research outcomes and attracting grants from sponsors as well as from other concerned stakeholders.
University key officials showed solid support led by ESSU President, Dr. Andres C. Pagatpatan, Jr.; Dr. Lito D. Lacaba, Vice President for Research & Extension; and Dr. Rhodora C. Mendoza, Vice President for Administration. In their messages, both Dr. Pagatpatan and Dr. Lacaba underscored the importance of ESSU meeting research and extension targets not only as part of its mandate but more importantly in affecting inclusive development in the province as its premiere academic institution.
The said workshop advocates interdisciplinary exploration, prompts transcending the boundaries of specific fields, fosters collaborations that bring diverse perspectives to the design table, and enriches the projects with holistic insights. Furthermore, researchers are urged to immerse themselves in the exploration of pioneering technologies and emerging trends, ensuring that their projects are not only relevant but positioned at the forefront of scientific and technological progress.
Headed by its Director, Dr. Delbert A. Dala, the University's RDSO has a full agenda of research and extension activities, trainings, and exercises on its pipeline in the following weeks and beyond.
