RDSO Spearheads Collaborative Workshop on Standardize Student Research

ESSU Main Campus' Research and Development Services Office (RDSO), by way of the Office of the Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension (OVPRIE), and the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA), engaged in a comprehensive discussion with the leadership of the different colleges and external campus representatives on Friday, February 7, 2025, aimed at developing a more streamlined and cohesive policy for student research.

RDSO Assistant Director, Dr. Riomar A. Obliopas, took the helm in the said collaborative workshop that seeks to enhance the research process, standardize procedures across academic units, and strengthen collaboration between the research office and academic departments.

The discussion was a highly collaborative exercise among the convening members who actively deliberated on key areas such as a) Streamlining the Research Process by Establishing a Standardized Framework, b) Ensuring Uniformity in Procedures by Developing Institutionalized Protocols, c) Clarifying Coordinative Functions by Defining the Roles of the Research Office and Academic Units, and d) Upholding Research Quality by Introducing Assessment Metrics.

Establishing clear and consistent procedures that support and elevate the student research experience is imperative, given the fundamental role student research plays in shaping the institution's academic reputation. As expressed by Dr. Obliopas, this initiative was conceived as well to address queries put forward by members of the House Committee on Appropriations surrounding student research output in the recent bicameral budget hearings for SUC funding.
