Vice President for External Affairs and Quality Assurance (VPEAQA), Dr. Jocelyn S. Castro, spearheaded a meeting with the members of the Technical Working Group (TWG) of the University's application for another international accreditation body, which is the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI). The said meeting was held on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at the Smart Technologies Building, ESSU Main Campus.
What makes WURI distinct from the other global rankings is that it assesses a Higher Education Institution's (HEI) real contributions to industry and society, highlighting innovative education, research, and engagement with society using a defined set of categories that encompass innovation targets and methods, offering a comprehensive measure of the institutions’ creative contributions to societal advancement. These parameters are quite unique from the instructional efficacy measurements by which HEIs are typically rated.
This new undertaking by ESSU is another step further in its intentions of breaking into national prominence and global relevance in the playing field of tertiary education, a pursuit that has been a staple in countless board meetings, management reviews, and strategic planning sessions in recent years.
