The National Authority for Child Care (NACC) through the Regional Alternative Child Care Office (RACCO) VIII conducted a seminar on R.A. 11642 with BS Social Work students of ESSU Main Campus yesterday, July 10, 2024, at the 2nd Floor Central Library.
Vice President for Administration, Dr. Rhodora C. Mendoza, formally received the delegation from the NACC and the student participants with her welcome remarks to start off the activity.
The seminar, which was attended by ESSU BS Social Work students from all year levels, provided a comprehensive discussion of R.A. 11642, or the ”Domestic Administrative Adoption and Alternative Child Care Act." The said legislation, as explained by Ms. Jessica Simangan, SWO III of DSWD's Domestic Administrative Division, provides defined parameters and conditions for adoption.
The law seeks to ensure that every child remains under the care and custody of the parents and is provided with love, care, understanding, and security towards the full and harmonious development of the child’s personality. It is only when such efforts prove insufficient that appropriate placement or adoption by an unrelated person is considered.
Faculty members from the College of Arts & Social Sciences (CASS), including CASS Associate Dean, Dr. Erlie C. Delantar, and BS Social Work Program Head, Ms. Ethanie Irish A. Guilleno, were in attendance at the event. A handful of speakers from the NACC team took to the front for a thorough discussion about the said legislation and encouraged the students to join their team after graduation as their agency is a perfect match for their degree. The speakers gladly addressed questions from the students as well.
