ESSU Main Campus' Gender and Development (GAD) office, led by its Director, Atty. Dulce Lyn B. Payod, hosted a seminar on Anti-Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) Law, Safe Spaces Act, and Committee on Decorum and Investigation (CODI) on Anti-sexual Harassment held at the Teatro Ibabawnon on December 4, 2024.
Republic Act 9262, also known as the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act of 2004, is an act defining violence against women and their children, providing for protective measures for victims, prescribing penalties therefore, and for other purposes.
The said activity is just one of the numerous campaigns that the GAD office delivers to ESSU students and employees alike as an integral part of its mandate. Information drives and seminars such as this play an important role in bringing awareness to their clientele and equipping them with the legal foundation to navigate the trail on various societal issues.
Atty. Jon Anthony R. Mutia, a privately practicing lawyer and a staunch advocate of the advancement of legal knowledge to the ordinary citizen, served as the guest speaker. Atty. Mutia gave a comprehensive workshop on what the Anti-VAWC law is all about, including the coverage and definition of terms of the said Act.
