From ESSU to the World: Students Embark on Global Internship in Luxury Hospitality in Thailand

Eastern Samar State University continues to break new ground in providing global opportunities for its students as four from the BS in Tourism Management and one from the BS in Hospitality Management programs flew today, March 27, 2025, to Thailand to begin their internship abroad. This pioneering batch will undergo specialized training at The Peninsula Bangkok, a world-renowned hotel, for a six-month internship lasting until September, where they will gain first-hand experience in luxury hospitality management.

The five students, Ms. Shena R. Barquillo, Ms. Kristel Ann G. Bencion, Mr. Ralph Gerard G. Cabelogan, and Ms. Keysha V. Cadlum from ESSU Guiuan Campus, along with Mr. Jopher O. Opeña from ESSU Main Campus, will immerse themselves in international industry standards, refining their expertise and enhancing their global competencies. Their participation in the Student Internship Abroad Program (SIAP) is a significant milestone, marking the University’s commitment to producing world-class professionals. ESSU was able to secure the necessary endorsements from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Bureau of Immigration (BI), allowing the university to participate in SIAP after a rigorous journey of preparation that lasted for almost a year.

Prior to their departure, the students participated in an intensive in-house training facilitated by the Internship Office in collaboration with the Internationalization Programs Office of the University. The training covered Thailand language essentials, Thai customer service standards, and food handling and beverage management, ensuring that they are well-prepared for their overseas assignments.

ESSU continues to expand its international partnerships, reinforcing its vision of producing globally competitive graduates. This internship opportunity not only enriches the students’ learning experience but also enhances their employability upon returning home.

The University extends its best wishes to the five interns as they embark on this transformative journey, breaking boundaries and setting new standards for future ESSU interns abroad.

Moreover, the students wholeheartedly express their profound gratitude to University President Dr. Andres C. Pagatpatan for his unwavering support and visionary leadership. Through his guidance, they are not only stepping into a world of international experience but also carrying the pride and aspirations of ESSU.
