The University's Supreme Student Council (SSC), the provincial Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), and the Provincial Government of Eastern Samar linked together to conduct Katig-uban: Youth Leadership Forum 2024 at the Canuctan Hall, ESSU Main Campus, on November 6, 2024.
Gathered together in the said forum were SK Chairpersons and SK Kagawads from the municipalities of Borongan, San Julian Sulat, and Taft; student organization leaders from the different ESSU campuses of Borongan, Can-avid, Arteche, and Maydolong; as well as other community-based youth organization leaders from the municipalities aforementioned.
The activity seeks to further equip current youth leaders as upcoming society leaders in government and the community at large with more theoretical knowledge and technical know-how of how bureaucratic processes are carried out in the actual world.
Various topics by select speakers with actual service experience were presented in the forum, including Leadership and Morality in Politics by Hon. RV Evardone, President of the Provincial Councilors League; Leadership in the Academe by Mr. Philip Raymond R. Bote, Head of ESSU's Student Organizations and Activities; and Leadership in Disaster Risk Reduction Management by Hon. Sheen P. Gonzales, Former Eastern Samar Vice Governor and former Mayor of Guiuan.
All participants then engaged in a spirited exchange of ideas in an open forum where the speakers entertained questions and a few challenges from the participating youth leaders who showed their proficiency in the topics mentioned. Overall, the forum proved to be a fruitful exercise in contributing to further youth empowerment and briefing them up for bigger challenges ahead.
