Immersing themselves in a celebratory and festive mood, the entire ESSU Main Community engaged in a whole day event to commemorate its 65th Founding Anniversary yesterday, June 20, 2024, at the Canuctan Hall.
The daylong activities commenced with a parade around the Main Campus, which was followed by a ceremonial wreath-laying ceremony at the monument of Hon. Felipe J. Abrigo with Mr. Sheen Apol Gonzales as a representative of the Abrigo family.
The afternoon activities began with the opening of the Tinipigan Museum and the Research and Innovation Exhibit at the University Library, which was followed by a Thanksgiving Mass at Canuctan Hall. A ceremonial march was conducted by University key officials, college deans, directors, unit chiefs, faculty, and administrative personnel to commence the program proper.
University President, Dr. Andres C. Pagatpatan, Jr., delivered a message that underscored the administration's unwavering commitment to steering the institution's current upward trajectory in pursuit of excellence.
Each delivering their congratulatory messages, distinguished guests graciously took the time to join in the festivities, namely Minority Leader and 4Ps Partylist Representative, Hon. Marcelino C. Libanan, represented by Hon. Stella Maris Libanan; Representative of the Lone District of Eastern Samar, Hon Maria Fe R. Abunda, represented by Ms. Cora Basada; Eastern Samar Governor, Hon. Ben P. Evardone, represented by Hon. PJ Evardone; and Borongan City Mayor, Hon. Jose Ivan Dayan Agda, represented by Atty. Orland Jerico Cordero. Meanwhile, ESSU BOR Chairman, CHED Commissioner Ronald Adamat, extended his congratulations via an audio-visual recorded message.
The Canuctan Hall glittered with a dazzling blue sapphire motif from the ladies in their lovely cocktail dresses and the equally fashionable formal wear by the gentlemen. Loyalty Awards were given to employees celebrating milestones in their many years of tenure at ESSU.
Turning out to be the highlight of the activities was the search for Mr. and Ms. ESSU Employee 2024, participated in by representatives from the various faculty members and administrative personnel. Contestants took the stage in their blue-themed evening gowns and formal wear. The pageant brought the house down with the candidates' witty introductions and responses to the much-awaited Q&A portion of the search. In the end, Mr. Adrian Anacta of Administrative Services and Ms. Pats Caballa from the College of Computer Studies secured the titles.
Everyone enjoyed the evening to the rhythm of the Eastern Samar Provincial Band's repertoire of chacha medleys, amenudo, kuratsa, and contemporary dance renditions, with Dr. Pagatpatan leading the way with festive enthusiasm. The Founding Anniversary celebration, in general, was a fun night filled with music, laughter, and camaraderie.
