ESSU Main Advances Healthcare Standards with DOH Ocular Inspection of Birthing Facility

ESSU Main Campus welcomed a Technical Panel from the Department of Health (DOH) Regional Office VIII on Thursday, February 27, 2025, for an Ocular Site Inspection of the Birthing Facility of the campus Infirmary, as part of the University’s fulfillment of regulatory standards and in preparation for the CHED COPC application of the BS Midwifery program.
 
DOH Regional Director, Dr. Exuperia B. Sabalberino, MPH, CESe was ably represented by DOH Provincial Health Team Leader for Eastern Samar, Dr. Jean Marie Egargo, who led the inspection team. Welcoming the DOH contingent were ESSU Chief Administrative Officer, Ms. Remedios D. Merilles, and College of Nursing and Allied Sciences (CONAS) Dean, Prof. Mark Bency M. Elpedes, RM, RN, MAN, with the rest of the BS Midwifery faculty, and the staff of the University's Infrastructure Project Development and Engineering Services (IPDES).
 
Eastern Samar State University Main Campus’ birthing facility plays a crucial role in providing maternal and child healthcare services to employees and students alike, in compliance with DOH regulations. This initiative aims to assess the facility’s setup, equipment, and documentary requirements, ensuring that it aligns with national and local health standards.
 
The said activity assesses the physical setup and functionality of essential equipment, compliance with legal and accreditation standards, identifies gaps in management, and ensures adherence to health and safety protocols in maternal and newborn care services.
