ESSU Inks Pact with EVMC as Base Hospital for its College of Medicine via MOA Signing

On Friday morning, August 9, 2024, the ESSU leadership warmly welcomed Dr. Joseph Michael A. Jaro, Chief of the Eastern Visayas Medical Center (EVMC), for a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing between ESSU and EVMC as its base hospital in anticipation of the College of Medicine's upcoming launch.

University key officials led by ESSU President, Dr. Andres C. Pagatpatan, Jr., received Dr. Jaro and his team. The MOA signing itself was conducted at the President's Conference Room, sealing the agreement between two of the most prominent institutions in the region.

In his message, Dr. Jaro expressed that while it may look like EVMC is doing ESSU a favor by entering into this agreement, the reality is quite the contrary. With EVMC's ever growing bed capacity, the need for more interns and resident medical practitioners across all its services also grows with it, and this partnership is a mutually beneficial endeavor for both parties.

Moreover, Dr. Jaro also verbalized that he has no doubt ESSU will be able to maintain the College of Medicine and grow even further as the University has already laid the groundwork as a Level II Philippine Quality Award (PQA) certified institution, a comment that rings resoundingly for the entire ESSU community.

By virtue of this MOA, EVMC will function as the base hospital for ESSU's College of Medicine, where graduating students will complete their internships. The medical center meets the criteria for a tertiary hospital, which is a prerequisite for any Doctor of Medicine program offered by a college or university in accordance with CHED standard regulations. The opening of the Doctor of Medicine program at ESSU is now solely a matter of when, contingent upon this recent development.
