University Vice Presidents, College Deans, Directors, and Associate Deans of the Main Campus conducted a Ceremonial Tree Planting activity today, August 6, 2024, at Sitio Dio, Brgy. Tabunan, Borongan City, as part of the week-long 20th Charter Day celebration of ESSU.
Leading the delegation were Dr. Rhodora C. Mendoza, VP for Administration, Dr. Jocelyn S. Castro, VP for External Affairs and Quality Assurance, and Dr. Aris A. Lapada, OIC-VP for Academic Affairs.
Moreover, the said activity was organized by UDRRMO through its Director, For. Enp. Edgar I. Peque, together with Mr. John Mark Gonzales, IGP's Senior Agriculturist, and the BS Environmental Science students.
Dr. Mendoza explained in her message that apart from giving back to the environment, the said exercise is also grounded on R.A. 10176 and the Civil Service Commission's (CSC) mandate for government institutions to conduct periodic tree planting activities such as this.
Narra and Patsaragon seedlings, which are classified as hardwood trees, were used for the activity. Mr. Peque explained that the said activity is a tree planting and tree care exercise, which implies that a team, consisting of Senior Agriculturist Gonzales and BS Environmental Science students, will be responsible for the monitoring and care of the seedlings that were planted. An additional comparable activity will be conducted by October to replace the seedlings that did not thrive and to plant additional fruit-bearing seedlings.
