ESSU, DOST, and PSTO Eastern Samar Link Up to Provide CEST Workshop for beneficiaries

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) Eastern Samar, and Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) collaborate to deliver a valuable workshop for CEST beneficiaries aptly titled "Empowerment Workshop: Building Capacities for CEST Beneficiaries" at the 2nd Floor Central Library, ESSU Main Campus yesterday, October 25, 2024.

Through its Training and Extension Services Office (TESO), ESSU facilitated the said workshop and welcomed the beneficiaries inside the campus. The exercise is part of the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) program, which focuses on empowering communities through science, technology, and innovation. The activity also aligns with the major development thrusts of ESSU under the leadership of Dr. Andres C. Pagatpatan Jr.

The workshop focuses on equipping participants with essential knowledge in five (5) key areas, namely Gender and Development (GAD), Product Development, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM), Environmental Protection & Conservation, and Health & Sanitation. Participants include representatives from the different cooperatives, local associations, and other beneficiary groups from the barangays of the different municipalities in the province.

These focus areas are crucial for sustainable community development and are aligned with the respective Research, Development, and Extension (RDE) programs of the academic units within ESSU. Each college and department within the university has dedicated efforts to ensuring that their RDE programs are responsive to community needs, contributing to holistic growth and resilience across sectors.

This workshop also highlights ESSU's commitment to integrating the RDE programs of its academic units into initiatives like DOST-CEST, ensuring that academic research and extension efforts directly benefit local communities.
