ESSU held a lecture series activity at the 3rd Floor Convention Center in Samar State University (SSU), Catbalogan City, on July 9, 2024. Dr. Marina S. Apilado, Vice President for Quality Assurance and External Affairs, led the ESSU delegation along with Dr. Rhodora C. Mendoza, Vice President for Administration, campus administrators, and directors.
Opening the activity with a welcome remarks on behalf of SSU President, Dr. Redentor S. Palenceia, was Engr. Ma. Lourdes Amante, SSU Vice President for Administration and Finance. She expressed her gratitude for the partnership between ESSU and SSU, highlighting the importance of collaboration and sharing best practices in higher education. Moreover, Dr. Marina S. Apilado expressed her team's deep appreciation for the hosts. She commended SSU for their warm hospitality and mentioned ESSU's eagerness to learn from SSU's experiences and initiatives, hoping to implement similar strategies.
SSU hosted ESSU in this lecture series activity to share their best practices based on their own efforts in their QS Stars Rating, Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking, and World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI), which the latter also aims to achieve. Speaking on SSU's QS Stars Rating Application was Mr. Ariel N. Abarratigue, International Quality Assurance Staff. Dr. Elmer A. Irene, SSU's International Affairs Director, spoke on their Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, while Engr. Mirador G. Labrador, SSU's Vice President for Research and Extension Services, spoke on their WURI Application.
In his closing remarks, SSU's Quality Assurance Director, Mr. Jake Boy D. Carbonquillo, expressed that quality is everyone's responsibility. It is in this spirit that SUCs in the region continue to work together in fulfillment of their mandate to bring higher education in the region to greater heights.
