In collaboration with the Eastern Samar Provincial Government and the Photojournalist's Center of the Philippines (PCP), ESSU brought together campus journalists of all the student publications from all campuses for a highly enriching workshop on mobile journalism yesterday, November 19, 2024, at the Teatro Ibabawnon, ESSU Main Campus.
Labeled "Navigating the Digital Media Landscape: A Workshop on Mobile Journalism in the Age of Disinformation," the organizers brought in a formidable lineup of resource speakers bannered by Philippine photojournalism heavyweight and PCP Chairperson, Mr. Jimmy Domingo, who talked about Mobile Photojournalism.
Household names in broadcasting, Mr. Atom Araullo of GMA Public Affairs and Mr. Anjo Bagaoisan of ABS-CBN News discussed Photography and Visual Storytelling and Short Video Production with a focus on Mobile Journalism respectively, while Mr. Jaemark Tordecilla (formerly of GMA Multimedia), a Harvard Nieman Fellow, discussed Data Gathering with the Utilization of AI.
On behalf of Gov. Ben P. Evardone, Board Member Hon. RV Evardone welcomed all participants and imparted a message encouraging the participants to soak in everything that they were about to learn from all the accomplished resource speakers that they may be better agents of truth and democracy.
In the current age of artificial intelligence and global interconnectivity, misinformation and fake news are also in great supply and readily accessible, being fed to online consumers, thereby competing with the actual truth and factual information. It is this sad reality that the organizers want to address and properly equip the young journalists against by having this exercise.
