DILG-LGA Meets with ESSU for Delivery of Technical Training to Local Government Officials

Eastern Samar State University warmly welcomed officials from the Local Government Academy (LGA) at the Faculty Lounge, ESSU Main Campus, yesterday, November 13, 2024, for a preliminary meeting on a partnership that will make ESSU an instruction and extension partner of the academy in providing relevant skills training to local officials at the municipal and barangay levels.

Established in August of 1988, LGA is an attached agency of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), which is "responsible for human resource development and training of local government officials and the department personnel for the Department proper and the local government bureaus, including regional field offices." This is in accordance with Section 14 of Executive Order No. 262 series of 1988.

ESSU key officials, led by the vice presidents, campus administrators, and college deans, together with the university's consultants, Dr. Edmundo A. Campoto and Dr. Emilia L. Baquilod, welcomed the visitors from LGA and the DILG Regional and Provincial offices for a comprehensive presentation of their agency mandates and functions. The meeting also tackled important points of the forthcoming collaboration and laid out a defined structure of cooperation.

LGA seeks to utilize ESSU's expertise in instruction and other training delivery capabilities to become an official Learning Resource Institution (LRI) partner of the agency that will spearhead in the training of newly elected and appointed government officials and further the skills of encumbent local officials, with the long-term goal of equipping them with the relevant competencies to be able to function properly in their respective offices while the academy provides financial, technical, and logistical support.
