In strong support of the Generics Awareness Month, the College of Nursing and Allied Sciences (CONAS) held a generics awareness seminar in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH) at the Teatro Ibabawnon, ESSU Main Campus, on September 4, 2024.
The Generics Month is in celebration of the Generics Act of 1988 (Republic Act No. 6675), an act that promotes, requires, and ensures the production of an adequate supply, distribution, use, and acceptance of drugs and medicines identified by their generic names.
Resource speakers from the DOH Provincial Office and the Eastern Samar Provincial Hospital (ESPH) shared valuable knowledge with the student participants on topics concerning the legal foundation of the use of generic drugs, the distinguishing factors between generic and branded, Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS), Rational Use of Medicine (RUM), and the various DOH programs combating AMR.
Themed "'Kasayuran Han Generika Nga Medisina Ngan Pag-ato Han Anti-microbial Resistance (AMR)," the activity seeks to promote consciousness and the use of generics by the general public.
In his message, CONAS Dean, Prof. Mark Bency M. Elpedes, expressed great enthusiasm for making the seminar happen, instantly agreeing without second thought when DOH contacted him to request an audience for the said activity. Prof. Elpedes hopes that the seminar is just the first of many future engagements between his office and the health department.
