ESSU Main Campus employees and students were the beneficiaries of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ (BSP) Public Information Campaign on the First Polymer Banknote Series on Monday, March 17, 2025, held at the Teatro Ibabawnon.
A team from the BSP Visayas Regional Office in Cebu and the Tacloban Branch was on site for the said information drive. Ms. Erma Lagarto, Bank Officer IV, and Ms. Odhessa Caranzo, Bank Officer II, from the Regional Office, took turns at the podium for their presentations, starting with the BSP’s functions and mandate.
For the main part of the campaign, the bank officers presented the new design and security elements of the Php1000, Php500, Php100, and Php50 polymer banknotes. With these banknotes, the country joins the roster of over 400 countries that have adopted the polymer banknotes, ensuring that the Philippine currency will be more secure, durable, and sustainable.
Moreover, the presentation also highlighted the major functions of BSP and the integral role it plays in the national economy, including the price stability of all goods and services, overall national financial stability, and an efficient payments & settlements system. The bankers also gave helpful pointers on the conduct of secure online financial transactions and underscored the significance of cyber security.
