87 students across ESSU campuses gathered today, January 8, 2024, at the Canuctan Hall to receive their stipends for the Scholarship Program for Coconut Farmers and their Families (CoScho), which is jointly administered by the Philippine Coconut Authority and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
Each student received a Php 70,000 scholarship grant, which was personally distributed by the CHED Regional Office 8 Director, Dr. Maximo C. Aljibe, along with the University President, Dr. Andres C. Pagatpatan, Jr. Of the 87 qualified students, 65 are from ESSU Main Campus, 7 from ESSU Salcedo Campus, 4 from ESSU Can-avid Campus, and 11 from ESSU Guiuan Campus.
The Php70,000 financial assistance includes a stipend per semester of Php35,000 for various expenses such as food, transportation, projects, internet use, and communication; a book allowance of Php5,000 per semester; and a one-time financial assistance of Php30,000 for the purchase of a laptop computer. In the upcoming semester, students will be receiving an additional Php40,000 for their stipend and book allowance.
The scholarship program aims to foster social equity among coconut farmers and alleviate poverty by offering quality education to their families and dependents.
