11th ICIDRRM Conference Highlights Key Discussions on Resilience and Disaster Risk Management

In the continuing 11th International Conference on Integrative Disaster Risk Reduction Management (ICIDRRM), Dr. Sun-Kee-HONG of Mokpo National University, Keynote Speaker for the said conference, started off the activities with a lecture on "Building Resilient Futures: How Biocultural Diversity Theory Can Contribute to Climate Crisis Adaptation in Island Regions" via Zoom.
 
Day two of the activities continued at the Teatro Ibabawnon of the ESSU Main Campus yesterday, November 28, 2024. Questions from the audience, both online and at the venue, were also entertained and addressed by the Korean expert in an open forum immediately after.
 
This was followed by a special session of the presentation of DRRM projects and best practices by partner institutions, where Dr. Melvin Joel B. Sacmar of DOST Eastern Samar gave a presentation of their "Eastern Samar Provincial Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Plan Development: An Innovative Resource Engagement for Sustainability and Progression thru Organized Networks and Development (iRESPOND).
 
Meanwhile, Ms. Marie Nessa P. Gardiola of Plan International Pilipinas, an advocacy group for women's & children's well-being, gave a comprehensive briefing on "Disaster Risk Management: Protection from Violence Integration to Anticipatory Action" where she presented her group's proficiency and wide experience in providing all sorts of services to the aforementioned sectors of society on the receiving end of large-scale disasters.
 
As the final plenary speaker, Dr. Rico C. Ancog, Dean of the UPLB School of Environmental Science and Management, shared his expertise on "Cross-sectoral approach to DRRM: Integrating SDGs and Strategic Foresight in Policy Development and Community Empowerment" via Zoom. Participants once again were split into two groups according to the other two thematic areas of the conference.
