ESSU Guiuan’s Cr󠆖ẽme de la Cr󠆖ẽme

Known as a quiet but witty college boy who dreamed of becoming a Man in Uniform just made history as he placed 9th in the April 2023 Criminologists Licensure Examination (CLE), making him the first ever topnotcher of Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) Guiuan Campus.

He is Michael Sumook Lejanio, Jr. a 22 year old lad from Brgy. Matarinao, Salcedo, Eastern Samar. As a pioneering student of Bachelor of Science in Criminology (BSCrim) Program and a Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES) grantee, Michael had shown tremendous perseverance and hard work which resulted to an excellent standing in the said national board examination.

In his testimonial speech last May 12, 2023 at the Guiuan Town Plaza, Michael shared his experiences as a BS Crim Student in ESSU Guiuan and his journey of becoming not just a Registered Criminologist but as a 9th placer. 

“I experienced a lot of hardships… but it is all worth it, all those sleepless nights, hard work and dedication finally paid off, sa wakas RCRim na ako! It is because of God,” Michael emphasized.

He also acknowledged the support of ESSU Community spearheaded by the University President Dr. Andres C. Pagatpatan, Jr. and Prof. Jared Harem Q. Celis, ESSU Guiuan Campus Administrator. He also gave salutations to his collegiate mentors who greatly contributed to his success and he especially mentioned his parents’ unconditional love and support in providing his needs while chasing his dreams despite adversities.

Meanwhile, to show recognition for achieving the 9th place in the CLE, ESSU Guiuan awarded Mr. Lejanio a monetary incentive worth 25,000.00 pesos. While other Registered Criminologists and new Licensed Civil Engineers were given Certificates of Recognition and Medals in the said Testimonial Ceremony.

Moreover, Dr. Pagatpatan, Prof. Celis and Prof. Eduardo A. Cablao, Jr., Dean of the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) conveyed their utmost happiness and pride for the very first board exam placer in the history of ESSU Guiuan. Also, Dr. Pagatpatan has high hopes for ESSU Guiuan that it will be producing more topnotchers in the future.

Finally, Michael reminded his juniors – the incoming takers, that if they want to pass or top the board exam, they should clearly pursue their goals and that their dreams are worth fighting for. “Fight for that vision and never give up no matter what happens, and most importantly pray for it,” he added.
