Breaking last year’s record of single win, Joey Madeja topped at 2nd place for his Filipino article and Edson Balita on 5th place for English, both on combined category.
“I am happy that for the second time this semester, I am recognized in the national level,” said Madeja. “I did not expect this, but I guess going to a competition ready is something,” he affirmed.
Fresh member and first-timer, Balita, was delighted with the results.
“I guess this concludes that win-ning requires one to have the heart for winning not only by eyeing for it,” said Balita on an interview after the awarding. “I meant, listening to what the speaker really wants us to write was a big deal for me,” he continued.
With at least 8 representatives each, more than 50 reputed schools namely: Arellano University, Ateneo de Davao, UP Baguio, San Carlos Universi-ty, Miriam College, Far Eastern Uni-versity, Centro Escolar University, Bi-col State University and more, includ-ing schools from Eastern Visayas such as, Eastern Visayas State University, Leyte Normal University, North West-ern State University, ESSU Can-avid and ESSU Salcedo joined specifically for news writing.
CHED Chairman for Journalism and the speaker for news writing, Prof. Ben Domingo, pointed out that there are still a lot to learn in Newswriting, though he was pleased that everyone was interested to join.
