Typhoon Yolanda, not only claimed thousands of lives and properties, but also damaged the very source of the people’s livelihood in Leyte and Samar, which is farming and fishing. Damaged agricultural lands needed rehabilitation while the development and strategies to provide sufficient food in the shortest possible time and sustainable source of income over the medium and long term are necessary. With this in mind, ESSU Salcedo proposed to the Board of Regents for the approval of their project “Organic Fertilizer Production” which will be implemented among major typhoon-stricken areas of Leyte and Eastern Samar. Consequently, during the regular BOR meeting, the proposal was approved.

Eastern Samar State University held a seminar in the Preparation and Evaluation of Research Plans and Outputs last June 26, 2014 and followed by the Presentation and Review of Research Proposals on June 27, 2014 at the University Main Library. The event was participated by chosen representatives of different research teams of the ESSU community particularly from the ESSU Main, ESSU Can-avid, ESSU Guiuan, ESSU Maydolong and ESSU Salcedo. Dr. Hilario A. Odivilas, the Director of Research and Development addressed the seminar by giving the Rationale of Research and Development Capability Building.
